Beginner's Guide to Various Types of Gearboxes

It can be challenging and overwhelming choosing the best type of gearbox that ensures optimum performance. You have to take into consideration the gear ratio, pressure, speed, torque, noise, orientation, shaft, and operating cycles. The types of gearboxes available in the market today include the following: bevel gearboxes, helical gearboxes, spiral gearboxes, hypoid gearboxes, spur gearboxes, and planetary gearboxes. If you have gearbox problems or technical issues, you can always contact a gear service provider to ensure that your industrial gearbox system is otpimally operational for the entire duration of its lifespan. We will share some information about the different types of gearboxes to help you choose what you need for your industrial or commercial needs.

The  simplest and the most common gearboxes available today are spur gearboxes. The radial teeth positioning enables handling high gear ratios and efficiency of up to 98%.  Spur gearboxes are ideal for low-speed and low-impact jobs where loud noise is more tolerated as this type of gearbox creates a lot of pressure and noise. The gears of helical gearboxes are like spur gears but the teeth are not laterally positioned to the revolving axis, rather are locked at ninety degrees. The helical gearboxes' loading directions allow them to work with higher quotes, and they are quieter than spur gearboxes. Bevel gearboxes are composed of two crossing shafts, with cone-style teeth, promoting motion versatility in between shafts. A bevel gearbox should be handled with extra care considering the significant amount of pressure. Bevel gearboxes work best with lower gear ratios and  low-speed jobs, with an efficiency rate between 93% to 97%. A variant of bevel gearbox is spiral bevel gearbox, offering the same benefits of helical gear systems with slowly engaging teeth. Spiral bevel gearboxes have higher efficiency rate which is about 95% to 98%. Hypoid gearboxes resemble the types of spiral bevels with drive axes that don't touch. When it comes to mechanical performance of hypoid gearboxes, it is between 80% to 85%. When  compared to spiral bevel gearboxes, hypoid gearboxes are less noisy and more powerful, learn more about 2 speed gearboxes here!

Multiple outside planets or gears make up the planetary gearboxes, orbiting around the sun or inner gear, with an efficiency rate of 96% to 98%. As compared to spur gearboxes, planetary gearboxes are compact and with high gear differentials. Planetary gearboxes are compatible with helical or bevel gearboxes systems for maximum performance. Regardless of the type of  your gearbox system is, the rue efficiency depends on proper maintenance and other important factors. come and visit our homepage or website to learn more about spiral bevel gearboxes, right angle gearboxes, and others , click here!
